When should we arrive for the wedding?
We understand that it is quite a trip to get to San Miguel, wherever you're travelling from. To make sure you're here in time, we recommend travelling on the Wednesday or Thursday of the wedding week- whether you're coming via Queretaro, Leon, or Mexico City, there are often delays with traffic and road construction that could hold you up. We have our welcome drinks scheduled the day before the wedding and we hope that you can all join us!
Can I bring my kids?
While we wish everyone could come, this event is for guests that are 15+ only.
What is the dress code for the wedding?
We please ask that everyone attends the ceremony in formal attire (though not black tie). For other events dress code is TBD.
What's the weather like?
It will be warm in late September- on average, it should be around 25C (77F) in the day, and down to 12C (54F) at night. The sun is much more intense here so ensure to bring plenty of sun screen!
What if I don't speak Spanish?
While it's always good to brush up on a bit of Spanish (we'll add a little cheat sheet to the wedding website so you can practice), many venues, restaurants and bars in San Miguel are very familiar with English speaking tourists and will likely do their best to understand you.
What currency do they use in San Miguel?
Mexican pesos! The current exchange rate is around $20MX to $1USD, or $25MX to £1. All signage and prices are marked for pesos, so don't panic if you see a beer costs $100- as that's about $5 USD.
Is San Miguel a quiet town?
San Miguel is a city with a rich and vibrant night life which you’ll likely experience if you’re staying near the center of town. The wedding weekend is also set during La Alborada, a yearly party in honor of the city’s patron saint, meaning there will likely be even more festivities than normal and you should expect lots of noise and fireworks all weekend long. If you’re a light sleeper please be sure to pack ear plugs!
Do I need a visa to visit Mexico?
As of 01/05/25 those traveling on a US or UK passport do not need a visa to visit Mexico as a tourist. An important note, when you arrive at immigration and they ask you how long you will be staying, it’s best to overstate how long you will be in the country. If you give an exact number of days they may count them in a weird way and your permit to be in the country may be shorter than what you actually need, resulting in a fine on your way out. You can be in Mexico as a tourist for up to 180 days so tacking on an extra 5 days or so to your actual departure date won’t hurt.
How can I get around?
San Miguel is a very walkable town but beware that it is hilly. Uber is available but not as plentiful as in other places so plan to wait a bit while your car comes. There are also lots of local taxis.
Should I rent a car?
San Miguel is very hilly, and driving in Mexico is quite different from the US and even more so from the UK. Probably best to skip the car rental.
