Things to do in San Miguel

San Miguel de Allende is a charming colonial town in central Mexico, known for its vibrant arts scene, historical significance, and stunning architecture. Check out a few things to do there:


1. Explore the Historic Center

Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel: The iconic pink limestone church, with its Gothic spires, dominates the main plaza and is a must-see.

Jardín Principal: The central square where locals and visitors gather, surrounded by cafes and historic buildings.

Parque Benito Juarez: A lovely park with statues and fountains, perfect for a relaxing stroll.


2. Check out some of the rooftop bars

All around San Miguel there are hotel and rooftop bars to enjoy a quiet drink (or a few loud ones) and take in the scenery.


3. Visit the Local Art Galleries and Studios

San Miguel de Allende is a hub for artists. There are numerous galleries and studios showcasing everything from contemporary art to traditional Mexican crafts. The Fabrica La Aurora is a former textile factory now home to many artists' studios.


4. Visit the Local Museums

Museo de la Casa de Allende: A museum dedicated to Ignacio Allende, one of the leaders of the Mexican War of Independence.


5. Soak in the Thermal Springs

The nearby La Gruta Spa offers a relaxing experience with hot springs, mud baths, and massages, set against a beautiful mountainous backdrop.


6. Explore the Local Markets

The Mercado de Artesanías is a popular market for handicrafts, textiles, pottery, and silver jewelry. It's a great place to find souvenirs or to experience the local culture.


7. Hike and Explore Nature

The surrounding countryside offers several trails and opportunities for hiking, biking, or horseback riding. Cañada de la Virgen is a nearby archaeological site worth exploring for both its ancient ruins and scenic beauty.


8. Take in the Views from El Mirador

This lookout point offers panoramic views of the town and surrounding landscape, perfect for sunset photography- although it is quite a climb!


9. Explore Nearby Vineyards

The region around San Miguel de Allende is home to a growing wine industry. Take a day trip to explore the vineyards and enjoy wine tastings.


10. Experience the Local Cuisine

San Miguel de Allende has a thriving food scene. Be sure to try local dishes such as enchiladas mineras, chiles en nogada, and street food like tacos al pastor.

Things to do before/ after the wedding

We both appreciate everyone making the trip to San Miguel to celebrate our special day, whether from near or far. If you're making the trip from afar, we recommend using it as an excuse to see more of what Mexico has to offer beyond San Miguel de Allende.


Mexico City

If you're connecting via Mexico City, there is so much to do in Mexico's capital- whether exploring some of the world's best bars and restaurants, museums, cultural sites or the Aztec temples, it's well worth a visit when you're already in Mexico


Guanajuato

The state capital of Guanajuato, it is a quick and scenic drive from San Miguel de Allende, to explore a culturally rich city featuring fantastic views, a great food and bar scene, interesting local museums and beautiful, Spanish colonial streets.


Oaxaca

A short flight from Guanajuato, Oaxaca is a particularly beautiful part of Mexico known for its rich culture, colourful designs amazing food. Sam's favourite place in Mexico!
